Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)
Testing & Counselling

Sonaris provides a private alternative for the assessment and counselling involved in Auditory Processing Disorders (APD) in a prompt and timely manner.

Auditory processing can be broadly defined as how your brain interprets what you hear. An auditory processing disorder results from any number of things that can go wrong with the way that auditory information is processed. General symptoms that people with APD may show include distractibility in background noise, difficulty following multi-step directions and difficulty understanding abstract aspects of language such as humor or sarcasm. In children, APD signs may also include poor listening and inattention and academic difficulties.

APD can be developmental which begins in childhood and may continue into adulthood. It can also be acquired due to illnesses associated with cognitive decline, age-related hearing loss or other causes such as brain trauma, stroke, or dementia.

Sonaris will provide APD testing in a safe and secure environment for both adults and children utilizing the most current methods of evaluation. Our audiologists will help direct, develop, and guide treatment strategies, while providing comprehensive and accurate information regarding available resources.
