Bone Anchored Hearing Aids in Greater Vancouver
If hearing aids haven’t felt like the right fit, or you’ve been told they may not work well for your type of hearing loss, there are other options.
Bone anchored hearing systems use a different pathway to deliver sound, helping you hear more clearly when the ear canal or middle ear isn’t transmitting sound effectively.
At Sonaris, we guide you through whether this is the right option for you, and what that process actually looks like, so you can make a decision with clarity.

When to consider a bone anchored hearing system:
You may benefit from a bone anchored hearing system if you’re noticing:
- Hearing aids haven’t been effective or comfortable
- Ongoing ear infections or drainage
- Conductive or mixed hearing loss
- Hearing from one ear (single-sided deafness)
- Difficulty hearing clearly even with amplification
How bone anchored hearing systems work:
These systems use bone conduction to send sound vibrations directly to your inner ear.
Instead of relying on the ear canal or middle ear, sound travels through the bone, allowing your inner ear to process it more clearly when those other pathways aren’t working well.
What to expect from your assessment:
We start with a full hearing assessment and a review of your history to understand how your hearing system is functioning.
From there, we walk through whether a bone anchored system makes sense for you, including:
- whether a surgical or non-surgical option is appropriate
- what the experience actually feels like day to day
- how it compares to traditional hearing aids
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your options, without pressure to move forward.
Surgical and non-surgical options:
Some bone anchored systems involve a small implant placed behind the ear, while others can be worn externally without surgery.
We guide you through both, so you understand what fits your hearing needs, your comfort level, and your lifestyle.
Bone anchored systems and everyday life:
For many people, these systems can:
- improve clarity, especially in complex environments
- reduce listening effort throughout the day
- feel more comfortable when traditional devices haven’t
- help balance sound when hearing from one side
The goal is not just better hearing, but less strain and more ease in daily life.
Referred to Sonaris Hearing Center Surrey by ENT Doctor Mori. An excellent experience with audiologist Fred Manta. With Fred’s expertise, selected hearing aids and some specialised equipment, I am able to hear much of what I lost over the years through industrial noise exposure. Anticipating multiple appointments, I was hesitant to make the drive as there were hearing centres much closer to home. It quickly became evident however that it would be worth every mile. Office manager Ravjir and office admin., Hanna were very thoughtful in finding appointments that were off peak traffic times and fitting me in when there was a snag. All in all my wife Linda and I appreciate Sonaris very much and we’ll happily drive the distance to continue with them as my ongoing hearing management requires. Thank you Fred, Ravjir and Hanna.
I simply cannot say enough about Fred Matta . He is clearly one of the most personable, professional and knowledgeable specialists that I have ever met in the medical field. He spent an exceptional amount of time assisting me to make the best decision regarding my hearing aids. He also allowed lots of trial time for me to demo two different models. There was never any pressure to make the final purchase. I would also like to thank his receptionist/assistant, Jas. She completes the picture that allows for a friendly, comfortable office visit.
Do not hesitate to contact Sonaris as you will be most impressed!!
