WHAT SETS US APART

What we believe about hearing care.

01

Full-scope audiology, not just hearing aids.

Hearing aids are one tool. But audiology covers hearing, balance, tinnitus, auditory processing, pediatric development, concussion-related sensory changes, and more. We’re staffed and equipped to provide all of it. Most private clinics aren’t.

02

Audiologists, not salespeople.

Every appointment is with a registered audiologist. No sales quotas. No manufacturer incentives. What gets recommended is what the clinical assessment actually supports. That’s it.

03

Time and aural rehabilitation matter.

The patients who don’t succeed with hearing aids usually didn’t get enough time or follow-up. We built our model around genuine aural rehabilitation — understanding someone’s life and communication needs, not just fitting a device and moving on.

04

Medical-grade oversight in a private setting.

Our Medical Director, Dr. Tyler Mori, is a fellowship-trained otolaryngologist specializing in otology and neuro-otology. Our Assistant Medical Director, Dr. Matthew Dickson, is a pediatric otolaryngologist and clinical instructor at UBC. This level of specialist oversight in an independent clinic is unusual. We think it should be the standard.

WHY WE’RE HERE

Built to fill a gap that shouldn’t exist.

Fred Matta founded Sonaris because comprehensive audiology care was genuinely hard to get. Private clinics were focused on hearing aids. Public health was stretched thin. Waitlists for balance assessments, pediatric testing, tinnitus management — sometimes over a year. Fred had spent years in public health trying to close that gap from the inside. Eventually he decided to do something about it from the outside.

That’s Sonaris. A full audiology practice offering the complete scope of what an audiologist is actually trained to do — available now, without the wait.

Fred has been in practice for 24 years. He trained at the University of Melbourne, spent over a decade in public health audiology, and served as Clinical Practice Leader at Fraser Health, where he was responsible for clinical standards across an entire regional health authority. That’s the standard of care he brought to Sonaris.

One thing he’ll tell you about those 24 years: the technical knowledge matters, but it’s not what makes the difference. What makes the difference is time. Time to understand what someone is going through. Time for proper aural rehabilitation, not just a device handoff. The patients who struggle with hearing aids almost always struggled because they didn’t get enough of either.

“Patients don’t come in asking for sound. They come in because they’re losing connection — to conversations, to relationships, to the moments that matter. Restoring audibility is the first step. The real goal is helping someone feel present in their life again.”
